Robyn Bennett
Bio

In the lineage of the great American voices

Born in Pennsylvania, Robyn Bennett grew up surrounded by music: piano at 6, trumpet at 10, then singing in choirs, between jazz and classical, raised on Sinatra, Ray Charles and Billie Holiday. As a teenager she turned to musical theatre, studied at New York University and Vassar College, and earned a master’s in French literature at the Sorbonne.

In 2006 she settled in Paris and joined the cast of Cabaret (dir. Sam Mendes) at the Folies Bergère — dance captain, playing Texas and understudying Sally Bowles. There she met trombone player Ben van Hille: the chemistry was instant, on stage and off. Together they formed the Bang Bang.

After two albums of standards — Bang Bang (2009) and Live Until You Die (2011) — came the originals: The Wait (2013), then The Song Is You (2016). In 2019 she retreated to Algiers Point, New Orleans, to write Glow.

Her music? Groovy soul-pop à la Stevie Wonder, a powerful, sensual voice, explosive brass. On stage, it hits.
